Wednesday the 25th of November 2015 is White Ribbon Day. White Ribbon Day is Australia’s National Campaign to stop violence against women and their children.

Research shows that over 1 million children are affected and or exposed to domestic violence. These children have an increased risk of learning difficulties, behavioural difficulties and mental illnesses.

White Ribbon Day originated in Canada in 1991 and is the largest male led movement to end domestic violence against women. White Ribbon Day is now held in over 60 countries around the world. White Ribbon Day originated in Australia in 2003 and formally became a foundation in 2007.

This year in Melton, Djerriwarrh Health Services and the City of Melton has partnered together to run a coffee cup campaign to re inforce the issue that violence against women and children is never acceptable. From Monday the 23rd of November to Friday the 27th, participating cafes and restaurants will have coffee cups with the hashtag – City of Melton says NO to Domestic Violence against Women. The campaign will be run in hope that the message is spread all around Melton and encourages people to stand up and speak out if they know something.
