Tips for Getting a Rental

If you or someone you know has recently tried getting a rental, you’ll know that it can be quite challenging at times. Especially when you attend an open only to find that there are 15 or more interested people inspecting the property. So what can you do to get a step above the rest?

  1. Punctuality. Ensure you apply for the property as soon as possible. One of the main reasons people miss out on a rental home is because they take too long to fill out and drop in the application. A safe bet is within 24 hours. Property managers don’t wait for everyone applications to come in, they start looking at them as soon as they are put on their desk.

  1. Documentation. There is no point handing in a half completed application. In a hot rental market, an owner will always choose an application that is completely filled out. If there are sections of the applications that haven’t been filled out, an owner may decide to go with an application with more information. Along with a correctly filled out application, additional documents will always be a bonus, whether that be payslips, bank statements or centrelink statements. The more documents you have, the better.

  1. Ask for advise. It’s always a good idea to ask a property manager if there is anything else you can do to help your application. Is there any information missing, or anything that the property manager doesn’t understand about your application.

As Real Estate Agents we are here to help you find your next home, whether that be renting or buying.
